Get your work out therePosted: 04/04/2011
Shows can be a big part of an artist’s life. Especially if said artist does not have regular gallery space, like me, or if he/she sells gift-type items, which I do. Shows are a great place to connect with new audiences and to meet other vendors, and, if you’re lucky, make a sale or two. I participate in shows in which I sell my gift-y items and also my fine art. This month, for example, my fine art (mixed-media shadowbox collages, digital collages, and framed illustrations) is on display at The AZ Gallery in the Lowertown area of St. Paul. If you’re in town, check out the work during regular gallery hours, or during the Saint Paul Art Crawl, which takes place April 29-May 1.
The 2011 show season for me began in January when I was a vendor at the Bridal Party hosted by Mpls.St.Paul Magazine. I shared a booth with Megan Moore and Hadley Barrows of Commemorate the Date, my partners in crime on some wedding suites. I designed the suite templates, and we incorporate Megan’s paintings in them. They’re really quite stunning. Megan’s paintings also make a great wedding gift, or can also be given for birthdays and other milestones.
In 2010, I participated in more shows than I ever had previously. I also found a larger presence in the stores my work is sold in, and even found my way into a couple new shops. Below are some photos of my work at shows and in stores. Enjoy the sunny climes in the outdoor shots, Minnesota readers! We’ll be there again soon. Just hang on.
