So as I’ve been writing about recently, I was invited to showcase my work at the RAW: Minneapolis – Illuminaire event last week. It went very well, I made some sales, and I connected with artists I had not met before, and a new audience. I LOVED the mix of fashion, music, and art–three of my favorite things.
Part of being a RAW artist means we get professional photographs of ourselves and our work, and a video about what makes us tick, both of which we can use for ourselves after the event. It’s such a cool perk! Here is a photo taken of me, shot by RAW photographer Drew Carlson.
Since the majority of my fine artwork is with One-Offs Yippee!, I was challenged with making a bunch of new pieces for this event. What resulted were some of my favorite work since I started dedicating myself to my art about two years ago. It was thrilling seeing old friends and new acquaintances offer kind remarks for my work, and show general interest. None of them sold, but I got a lot of great feedback, and many took my business card. That’s what it’s all about.
I also got to show off some of my new Minnesota icon illustrations, in the form of postcards, which are new to my arsenal. I sold a few of the postcard sets, and I’m really excited to debut them soon in my Etsy shop and also to local stores that carry my work. Stay tuned for photos of the postcards, but in the meantime, here’s the first look at one of my latest Minnesota icon framed illustrations. What do you think? Can you guess who’s going to appear in my Etsy shop tomorrow?
Do you love art? Do you particularly like to support *local* artists? Then you should become familiar with RAW: Natural Born Artists!
I have the honor of showcasing my work at the upcoming RAW: Minneapolis event, Illuminaire, which takes place on July 21 at the Fine Line Music Cafe. The event features fine artists, local music performances by Culture Cry Wolf and Love Deluxe, as well as two live fashion shows to close out the night. If you are in the Twin Cities area, please come check us out–it’s a great way to mingle with local artists and art lovers while enjoying a cocktail and listening to great music!
To participate in a RAW showcase, artists are asked to sell 20 tickets to the event. Tickets are only $10 and are available here until Monday, July 18. I’d be thrilled if you selected “redshoes26 design” in the pull-down menu at checkout. If you do not purchase a ticket by the 18th, you can still come to the event and pay the $10 cover at the door, but you will not be supporting an artist directly. Please show your support and pick up a ticket today!
RAW connects them with one another so that they might grow together, while providing them with opportunities to give back to their own local youth communities through the arts.
We encourage the creative success of the many visionaries and storytellers of our generation.
I hope to see you on Thursday, July 21! Thank you! Here’s a link to my long bio…it turned out pretty cool.
I’m going to be showing off my work at a couple different showcases in the next two weeks.
On Thursday, July 14, stop by the Artist Mercantile in St. Paul and visit with me, the shop’s featured artist. During the Meet & Greet with Christy Johnson event, I’ll show some of my framed Minnesota icon illustrations, greeting cards, giclee prints (all of which the Artist Mercantile carries in the store), and some of my mixed-media shadowbox collages. I hope to see you there!
On Thursday, July 21, I’m one of the showcased artists in RAW: Minneapolis – Illuminaire at the Fine Line Music Cafe in Minneapolis. Come see the many talented visual artists including myself (I’ll be showing mixed-media shadowbox collages, prints, Minnesota icon illustrations, and more), jewelry designers including Jennifer Merchant Design, bands, and fashion and makeup artists as well. Tickets are on sale now for $10 and can be purchased at the website. Be sure to choose “redshoes26 design” in the pull-down menu when checking out. I appreciate your interest in my work and in the RAW showcase! I went to the June event in Minneapolis, and it truly was fabulous. I can’t wait to meet new people, network, see my fans (hi!), hear the bands, and take in the fashion show…squee!
